svein tuft signs long term deal with symmetrics - may 28 2007
Svein Tuft will be riding with Symmetrics Pro Cycling for at least 3 more years. The team is proud to announce that we have signed Tuft to a long-term contract that signifies Symmetrics Pro Cycling's commitment to the sport in Canada. After international wins like the Tour of Cuba, the US Open Championships, and several National titles on both the road and track, it is clear that Svein Tuft is the present and future of Canadian cycling. Svein has been with Symmetrics for the last 4 years and it was an easy decision for both motivated parties to continue the relationship.
"Symmetrics Pro Cycling is working hard to give Svein the environment and financial security that lets him focus solely on training and racing. The team's program has grown tremendously over that last five years and it has been a pleasure to work with such a committed team player and athlete. Svein has shown leadership and commitment and we want to give him the security he needs," Kevin Cunningham, Symmetrics Pro Cycling co-owner said. "We have a firm belief in developing our riders for the long haul, and part of that is security that they will be able to focus on the task at hand: bike racing. A three-year deal means that Svein knows we are in it for the long haul, and we know that so is he."
Svein Tuft, a resident of Langley, BC, is equally pleased to commit to the team for the future. "For me personally, this team means so much. Without the commitment that Symmetrics has given me over the last four years I honestly don't think I would have ever reached the success that I have experienced," Tuft said. "The most exciting thing for me personally is I believe we have only started and the best is still to come. This program has grown to be such an example of what teammates can do together and the idea of riding for anyone else never was in question. It is great to see a program like ours give me the security so I can enjoy my career without worrying about the future."

'beyond the horizon' hits bookstore shelves: read a detailed account of colin & julie's remarkable journey - may 07 2007
In June, 2004, Colin Angus left Vancouver fully equipped with Axiom gear, including our racks and pannier bags. Nearly two years later, he rolled back in, looking like a castaway, and having completed the first human-powered circumnavigation of the globe.
Angus cycled, skied, and rowed a route that took him to Alaska, across the Bering Sea and the Siberian winter, across Europe from Moscow to Portugal, then across the Atlantic to Costa Rica-a 156-day rowing odyssey. From there it was a short 8,300 kilometer ride back to Vancouver. Along the way he burned through 4,000 chocolate bars, 72 inner tubes, 250 kgs of freeze-dried foods, 31 dorado fish (caught from the sea), 2 offshore rowboats, 2 bicycles, 80 kgs of clothing. And he showed the world that if he can travel 43,000 kilometers without polluting the planet, then the rest of us can get off our butts, and clean up our own acts.
On a side note, Colin started his trip on a Norco Bigfoot mountain bike with full touring gear for the more rugged, intense portions of the trip through Siberia. He used the Bigfoot from Vancouver to Portugal ,where he left it with a friend. When they (Colin and Julie) started riding again in Costa Rica, after completing the trans-Atlantic row, they used bikes from Norco's VFR series for the final 8300 kms.
When you buy the book “Beyond the Horizon“ before the end of April 2007 in a Canadian bookstore, you can choose one of three expedition DVDs for $10 (including shipping & handling and GST) instead of the regular price of $28.27 ($22 plus S&H and GST). The expedition films are Amazon Extreme, The Yenisey River Expedition, and Beyond the Horizon.
